ITIL 4 update – ITIL Foundation book now available to pre-order

ITIL® 4 is due to be released in February 2019, and big changes to the world’s most popular IT service management framework are expected. You can pre-order your copy of ITIL Foundation, ITIL 4 Edition here.

Here’s what we know about the new framework so far.

What’s new with ITIL 4?

One of the major differences is that ITIL 4 is set to take a more holistic view of service management, with a view to ensuring a better understanding of how everything fits together to deliver value for customers. ITIL 4 will still describe the core ideas of incident management, problem management and change management, as they are fundamental to the ITIL framework.

Moving from ITIL v3 to ITIL 4

Students who are further along in their ITIL scheme can take one of the several bridge courses available to help transition to ITIL 4. To do a bridge course, you must have 17 credits in the ITIL v3 scheme. The full recommendations can be found on the AXELOS website.

Rather than following a lifecycle model, the new ITIL journey will give IT practitioners a choice of two routes depending on their desired outcome. Both routes will be underpinned by ITIL Foundation courses.

What’s happening to ITIL v3?

It’s not going away just yet. Existing ITIL v3 certifications will operate concurrently alongside ITIL 4 until June 2020.

ITIL 4 Foundation

The ITIL 4 Foundation course is a new, two-day course designed as an introduction to ITIL 4. It sets out a new vision for ITSM using the ‘Service Value System’. A new book for the ITIL 4 Foundation course will be released in February to help students complete the ITIL 4 Foundation exam.
